Join us at the Fire Resilient Home and Garden to experience home and garden choices that simultaneously protect LA’s air quality, homes, lives, habitats and beauty.

The Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains, LA County Fire Department’s Forestry Division, and FormLA Landscaping will honor local residents who have taken steps to prepare their properties for wildfire. Enjoy the beauty of this naturally cool spot in the Santa Monica Mountains, and get hands-on experience with wildfire preparatory actions. We will:

  • Tour and maintain the home. Tour the fire resilient structure and help us take the actions recommended for homeowners in high fire severity zones.
  • Tour and maintain the garden. Learn about oak tree maintenance along the property’s oak-lined trail, tour the newly installed garden, and take maintenance actions that will prepare the garden for fire through autumn.
  • Enjoy! Join us to explore the natural space surrounding the home and garden, often 20 degrees cooler than surrounding areas and play with the RCD ember home.
  • We recommend wearing sturdy shoes, sunscreen and hats. Refreshments, tools, hope and joy will be provided.
